Get the source record
Obtain reports through the official authorized source and save each bureau's version. Mark the account, balance, status, dates, and personal information that is inaccurate. Differences between bureaus may identify where the bad data entered the chain.
Write a focused dispute for each item. State the fact believed inaccurate, the requested correction, and the attached evidence.
- Report date and bureau
- Account identifier
- Specific inaccurate field
- Supporting document
Track both sides
The bureau and the company furnishing information have related but distinct roles. Keep submission dates, confirmation numbers, delivery evidence, and responses. Recheck the report after the stated investigation period.
Do not use blanket templates that dispute every negative item regardless of accuracy. That can slow a valid correction and does not create a right to remove accurate information.
